Here are this week’s top stories from Farm and Dairy:

1. Venison cuts and uses (Infographic)

Deer meat is not only healthy; it can be less expensive than store-bought meat, too. Our infographic covers the basics of venison cuts and uses, plus butchering and cooking tips.

Are you a hunter? Submit photos of your hunt to our Brag About Your Bag photo gallery. All submitted photos will be displayed on our website, and some lucky hunters will see their photos in print.

2. Ten steps to marketing your timber

You may only have one chance to sell your timber, so the pressure is on to do it right. Reporter Chris Kick walks us through 10 tips for marketing timber, from when to sell, hiring a consultant and completing the sale.

The tips are gleaned from a November meeting of the Stark Soil and Water Conservation District, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Ohio Department of Natural Services.

3. Deck the halls: Christmas tree buying guide

While the excitement of the Christmas season begins well before Thanksgiving anymore, going to a tree farm or picking up a tree from a lot is a highlight of the season for some people.

Online columnist Ivory Harlow offers six tips for choosing the space for your tree, the type of tree to buy, transporting and setting up your tree.

4. USDA report: Farm profitability weakens in 2015

For the second year in a row, net cash and net farm incomes are expected to decline.

Net cash income is predicted to fall 27.7 percent and net farm income is expected to drop 38.2 percent this year, making it the largest single-year decrease in over 30 years. The good news in all of this is that total farm production expenses are expected to fall for 2015.

5. Eggs are not just for breakfast

There are no rules when it comes to eating eggs for any meal of the day.

After thinking about ways to promote the state’s poultry industry, the Ohio Poultry Association board thought up the Fowl Mood Food Truck, a food truck that serves egg and poultry items. It debuted at the Ohio State and Minnesota State football game Nov. 7 in Columbus.
