Mrs. Hutchison’s Fruit Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups sour milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 cups oleo
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 lb. nuts (walnuts)
  • 1 lb. figs
  • 1 lb. dates
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 shots Rum
  • dried fruit, if you wish

Directions:

  1. Put fruit in flour before adding to the mixture to avoid sticking to pan and sinking to the bottom. Can add dried fruit at this time if you wish (cherries, pineapple).
  2. Grease 1 bundt pan or 2 loaf pans.
  3. Bake at 400° for 1 hour.
  4. Let sit for about 1 week then put a paper towel on top with Rum on it.
