COSHOCTON, Ohio — Located in Coshocton, Ohio, Mitchell’s Fence Supply sells treated southern yellow pine fence posts and treated poplar and pine fence boards by McArthur Lumber and Post; creosote-treated southern yellow pine by American Timber and Steel; woven wire, high-tensile wire and staples by Bekaert; gates, mineral feeders, head gates, squeeze chutes, horse stalls, feed bunks, stock tanks, hay feeders by Applegate Steel; wire cutters, insulators, strainers, sure latch gate latches; crimp sleeves, buckets, pails, poly wire, electric netting; Speedrite fence chargers, Nutrena feed, Right Now Mineral; and decorative stones.

Mitchell’s Fence Supply was originally located in the home of owners Lance and Angie Mitchell in February 2007. By April, the business had outgrown the home and moved into its current retail building at 19041 Township Road 7 in Coshocton.
In the future, the business plans to move to a state route location where the feed can be offered in a drive-through, and post and other fence materials exposed to more drive-by traffic, but the Mitchells still plan on being located in Coshocton County, with an outpost opening June or July in Licking County.
The Mitchell’s are also hoping to expand into American-made clothing and carry more products for horse enthusiast and the 4-H’ers.
“Since 2007 was our first year you can imagine the amount of knowledge that we obtained. We started out with basically posts and wire, but quickly expanded into carrying all of the necessary components that go along with fence building, such as gates, insulators, strainers and such,” said the Mitchells.
“The No. 1 reason that we have been successful is because of our commitment to provide quality products at great prices with customer service that is not easily matched.”
Since they are still a new business, Lance and Angie said it has been a challenge letting people to know that they are in business.
“But all of our customers in Ohio, and Pennsylvania, have helped so much spreading the word, and letting people know of their experience dealing with us.”
To stay competitive, Mitchell’s Fence Supply keeps adding to its product line — the most recent addition was the Nutrena line of feed products and Right Now Mineral, and also buckets and items for the horse enthusiast. They also put our their first catalog this spring.
When asked to cite how the industry is changing, the Mitchells said, “Everyone is becoming more price conscience, which has helped us because of our low prices. We also have recently started carrying 14-gauge wire in addition to our 12.5-gauge woven wire to give those people looking for a more economical choice.”
In addition, Mitchell’s Fence Supply strives to carry all American-made products.
“It is terribly difficult, and sometimes it is a bit more expensive, but we need to start somewhere to strengthen the USA again.”
