COLUMBUS — Jim Barr, 67, of Ashland, Ohio, died Jan. 19, 2015, in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, following an illness with pulmonary fibrosis and a stroke.

He was born Jan. 23, 1947, to the late Roy C. and Aileen F. (nee Garden) Barr in Ashland.

Barr graduated from Mapleton High School in the class of 1965. Following high school, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Barr attended The Ohio State University and he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in dairy science. He worked for DHI, as a milk tester. Throughout his life, he was a hardworking farmer and milked dairy cattle with his brothers until 1995.

Barr would later earn a certificate of auctioneer from Walton’s School of Auctioneering and his real estate license from Hondros College, after he sold his dairy cattle. He was currently employed as a realtor and auctioneer with Dilgard and Associates.

He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.

Barr is survived by his wife, Sharon Barr, of Ashland; one daughter, April Ochier, of Ashland; a son, Ryan Barr, of Polk; three grandchildren; four brothers, Bill Barr, Dave Barr, Gary Barr, and Terry Barr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Barr is preceded in death by a brother, Roy Tom Barr.

Funeral services were held Jan. 24 in the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Bill Schaefer officiating. Interment followed in the Nankin Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
