SALEM, Ohio — James Michael Norkus, 88, of Salem, died Jan. 4 at 1:52 p.m., at Salem Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Joseph and Pauline (Urban) Norkus.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in both the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946.
He and his wife also operated Norkus Orchards and Sunshine Orchards in Salem Township.
He was a Catholic by faith.
He is survived by his wife, the former Julia Ann Krenzelak; children, Michael Norkus and Santo Sicilia, who live at the family orchard, and Sam Sicilia of Salem; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Norkus.
No calling hours or services will be observed per Jim’s request. Arrangements were by the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
