PENINSULA, Ohio — A day of Urban Shepherds training will be held May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at The Spicy Lamb Farm, 6560 Akron Peninsula Road (Off Boston Mills Road), Peninsula.
Introducing sheep to urban dwellers, the day will cover how to oversee grazing flocks during maintenance period of the Shepherd’s Calendar.
Kathy Bielek, from OSU/OARDC, will teach FAMACHA, a method of selecting for treatment against worms. Ohio Shepherd Coordinator and board Vice President Wayne Miller will share his years of experience.
And, Executive Director Laura DeYoung will host the day at her Cuyahoga Valley National Park Countryside Conservancy Farm. The day will consist of theoretical training in the morning and hands-on practice in the afternoon.
Topics include shepherding, conservation grazing, common sheep ailments, predators and parasites, how to handle sheep and more.
Reservations are required and are $35 per person. Lunch and FAMACHA training is included.
