PLAIN CITY, Ohio — The Holstein Association USA Inc., Brattleboro, Vt., has awarded the Gold Medal Sire designation to two Select Sires bulls — 7HO8477 Willow-Marsh-CC GABOR-ET (EX-90) and 7HO8856 Ri-Val-Re-2338 NIAGRA-ET.
The Gold Medal Sire designation was given to these bulls in recognition of the superior type and production of their officially tested and classified offspring.
To qualify, bulls must exceed a specified level for Total Performance Index, must have a minimum reliability of 90 percent for their Predicted Transmitting Ability for Fat and Predicted Transmitting Ability for Type genetic evaluations and must be free of any recognized undesirable genetic defect.
Milk
The extremely popular sires GABOR and NIAGRA easily made the Gold Medal list. As elite TPI sires ranked among the breed’s top 60 bulls, they are high-type specialists that produce volumes of milk.
Both sires are complemented with positive fat and protein pounds and are calving ease sires. GABOR, at +1904 TPI, ranks third in Select Sires lineup for milk (+1,839). He also ranks among the top 15 sires at Select for type conformation at +2.28.
GABOR is a Diamond Selection sire and has gender SELECTed semen available. At +1913 TPI, NIAGRA rounds out the top 10 sires at Select for milk (+1,613 milk) and the top 20 bulls for type (+2.00) and udder composite (+1.94). NIAGRA, with a Sire Conception Rate of +3.0, has limited semen available.
