SALILNEVILLE, Ohio — Eric Baltputnis of Columbiana County works to harvest the crops on his family’s farm.
At 75 percent complete, he seems to be right on track with Ohio harvest averages for soybeans. The National Agricultural Statistics Service notes that 79 percent of beans are harvested as of Oct. 16 and corn is 49 percent harvested.
Nationally 73 percent of the soybeans are harvested and 54 percent of the corn.
Baltputnis at Thompson Farms, will harvest around 1,000 acres of grain crops this year with the help of his two uncles, Jim and David Thomspson.
“This is the best time of year,” said Baltputnis, “when the crops are coming off and the family is working together to make it all happen.”
