Spring shorthorn sale draws 27 head

DOVER, Ohio — BWF GP Fool SW08, a May 2008 heifer, was named grand champion female at the Eastern Ohio Shorthorn Association spring sale at the Tuscawaras County Fairgrounds in Dover.

This heifer was sired by CF Stonewall x and was consigned by Backwoods Farm, Johnstown, Ohio. She was purchased by Chuck Mettler, Perry, Ohio, for $1,700.

The reserve grand champion female was BR Marta FS08, an August 2008 heifer sired by Key Ridge Powerstroke. She was consigned by Blue Rock Shorthorns, Chandlersville, Ohio. She was purchased by David Archer, West Finley, Pa., for $1,500.

Champion bull

The grand champion bull was Key Ridge Landmark, sired by CCS Trademark. This March 2007 bull was consigned by Key Ridge Shorthorn Farm, Bellaire, Ohio. The 2-year-old bull was purchased by Fliger Family Farms, Loudonville, Ohio, for $1,800.

The reserve grand champion bull was consigned by Greenhorn Cattle Co., Waynesville, Ohio. GCC Primo Gold 101x, a March 2008 yearling, was sired by CF Primo. This red-necked roan bull was purchased by J-Mar Acres, Ashland, Ohio, for $1,700.

The only other bull was consigned by Mooreland, Decatur, Ohio. Mooreland Beamer, sired by Mooreland Bert, was an October 2007 red-necked roan. He was purchased by Lawrence Awick, Sardinia, Ohio, for $1,500.

Top-selling lot

Backwoods Farm, Johnstown, Ohio, had the top selling lot with BWF Victoria 04, a 5-year-old and her heifer calf. The cow was sired by RF Gold Nugget 110. The pair sold for $1,975 and was purchased by Josh Reiter, Alliance, Ohio.

The second-highest selling lot was consigned by Alpha and Omega Farm, West Manchester, Ohio. This 4-year-old, AO Lady Marshmallow, had a heifer calf at her side. The cow was sired by Milestone Waymar. This pair sold for $1,850 to the Teeters Family, Leesburg, Ohio.
Lionel and Sam Persinger, Proctor, W.Va., were the volume buyers with the purchase of three head.

Averages

The 24 females sold for an average of $1,159.38 and the three bulls averaged $1,666.67. The 27 lots sold for an average of $1,215.74.

The Eastern Ohio Shorthorn Association fall sale is scheduled for Oct. 18. Jeff Workman will be the sale manager.
