Master Gardener class. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County will host an informational meeting to discuss the Master Gardener Basic Training Class along with addressing any questions candidates may have. The meeting will be Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Contact the Extension office at 724-654-8370 for more information on this meeting.
The basic training class will include the following topics: botany, plant propagation, soil health and fertilizer management, composting, controlling pests safely, entomology, plant diseases, indoor plants, vegetables, lawn care, pruning, woody ornamentals, herbaceous plants, native plants, weeds and invasives.

STARK COUNTY
Healthiest soil. Stark Soil and Water Conservation District is searching for Stark County’s healthiest soil. Contestants can stop by the district office, 2650 Richville Drive SE, Ste. 100, Massillon, Ohio, to pick up a standardized 6-inch cylinder, which can be used to collect a uniform sample. Detailed instructions on proper sampling are available in a Facebook video (facebook.com/starkswcd) titled Stark Stewardship Live! Ep. 14 Healthy Soils. Samples can be dropped off at the district office from Aug. 24 to 28, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. One sample per landowner may be submitted. District staff and soil scientists will conduct five soil health assessment tests to determine the healthiest soil before the winner is announced Sept. 2. For more information, call 330-451-7645.
