Interesting story by Alan Guebert (Did Mississippi Farm Bureau railroad state director, Nov. 29) regarding Mississippi farm bureau state director Fred Stokes and his Kansas City news conference.
His comments regarding the lawsuit against the USDA and the Cattlemen’s Beef Board about the beef checkoffs were not that far out of line.
But, he proceeded to cross the line when he aligned himself with the Humane Society of the United States. Check their website and you will find their prime objective is to eliminate animal agriculture.
He knew he messed up real bad because he retained an attorney as soon as the state board started looking at his comments. His attorney saved him from removal.
Until the grassroots part of Farm Bureau got involved, that is, the people. Probably a district caucus of the membership was called and he was replaced, just like it should be. Good job by the local Farm Bureau members.
