ORWELL, Ohio — There will be a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 regarding recent changes in the Current Agricultural Use Value program.
The meeting will be at St. Mary’s Hall in Orwell, Ohio. Larry Gearhardt, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation director of local affairs, will be the guest speaker. He will define the CAUV program and offer direction on the proper procedure to provide proof as to the agriculture use on CAUV program property. Gearhardt will also answer specific questions.
CAUV allows land to be taxed based on its agricultural value, rather than fair market value, with its formula based on cropping patterns, crop prices, crop yield, non-land production costs and capitalization rate. There have been increases in CAUVs because crop yield data hasn’t been updated since 1984. As a result, many rural landowners have had substantial increases to their 2008 property taxes.
