MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio — Due to some confusion, the Morrow County fair board is announcing the details of this year’s fair, which will run Aug. 31–Sept. 7.
Cutting funding
The Morrow County Commissioners have decided to cut the Agricultural Society’s local funding from $10,000 last year to $2,400 this year. A majority of the local funding is used for building improvements.
The money from the commissioners does not affect the general operations of the fair.
The fair board has made some changes in the grandstand entertainment. This year, there will be two days of harness racing — Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at noon — instead of three days as in the past.
Junior Fair
The Morrow County Junior Fair and the Morrow County 4-H program are separate organizations. The Junior Fair is a competition with a restricted age limit of 8–18. The Morrow County Junior Fair requires exhibitors to be a member of a youth organization such as 4-H, FFA, Boy or Girl Scouts.
If the county 4-H program would cease in Morrow County, the fair board directors would adjust rules to allow 2009 4-H members to exhibit all their projects as independent exhibitors for in the 2009 Morrow County Junior Fair.
