SALEM, Ohio — A horse reported stolen last week has been recovered and it appears may not have been taken by a thief after all.
Mandy Werling, 18, of Miami County, reported her horse was stolen from the high school rodeo finals at the Champaign County fairgrounds June 20.
Werling was expected to compete with her horse, Lucky, in the barrel racing competition.
According to the Urbana Police Department, the horse is safe and has been taken into the custody of Werling’s father, Ken Werling.
According to the police report on record at the Urbana Police Department, the horse was removed from the stall by Ken Werling. He had reportedly tried to pick the horse up a few times and was unable to locate the horse until that night.
A police department representative said Werling showed the bill of sale to police.
Attempts to contact Werling were unsuccessful and messages left with Mandy Werling and her mother were not returned.
