REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Robert Boggs, chairman of the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board, has named Michael D. Bailey as the executive director of the board.
According to the enabling legislation, the chairman of the board has the authority to name an executive director, who is responsible for administering day-to-day operations in support of the board, while acting as a liaison between the board and the Ohio Department of Agriculture as well as all other interested parties.
Background
Prior to his appointment, Bailey led the creation of the department’s Bioproducts and Renewable Energy Program, where he served as coordinator for the Ohio Agriculture to Chemicals, Polymers, and Advanced Materials Task Force and the Third Frontier Bioproducts Advisory Board.
He began his career with the department in 2004 as executive director of the Office of Farmland Preservation.
Raised on a small dairy and grain farm in Union County, Bailey currently resides in Columbus. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural economics from The Ohio State University, and is also an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, and has served in Afghanistan and Africa.
