The Environmental Protection Agency has released its latest annual report, and several Mahoning Valley industries and landfills have made the list.
WFMJ reports that Vallourec, General Motors Lordstown Complex East and WTI Heritage are among the area facilities in the EPA’s report that have been the leading producers of greenhouse gases, specifically, carbon dioxide.
Carbon dioxide makes up 82% of the U.S.’s greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the atmosphere.
From WFMJ:
“More than 8,000 large-emitters reported direct greenhouse gas emissions to the program in 2013, representing approximately 50 percent of total U.S. emissions.”
