Mahoning County farmer injured in PTO accident

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio — A farmer was severely injured when he became entangled in an auger March 23.

According to Berlin Township Fire Chief Rick Peppel, Russell Marshall, of Berlin Station Road, was grinding feed for his livestock when Marshall reportedly got caught in the power take-off unit.

Marshall has reportedly lost an arm and suffered multiple internal injuries, according to Peppel. He was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Peppel said Marshall remains in critical condition.

Marshall is married to Melissa Marshall and has two children.

The Berlin Fire Department was assisted by the Ellsworth Fire Department at the scene as well as Lane Ambulance service.
