On a day when we celebrate the founding of our democracy, it is sad that Farm Bureau still is trying to prevent us from the peaceful enjoyment of our homes. While the EPA has not always lived up to their responsibility — if they had, I would not have 10 poultry buildings 500 feet west of my home of 32 years — I find that Farm Bureau’s venue for industrial farms is unconscionable.
What have they done for their members? Nothing, that I know of.
Have they subsidized the small and medium-sized farms, which have been a part of Ohio’s agricultural backbone? Not to my knowledge. One Farm Bureau representative used to look away when I showed him the pictures of the situation at my home.
I am not saying I am against industrial farms, although I do believe consumers questions the products. I am saying that putting the ag department in charge completely would be a big mistake for the waters of Ohio and the neighbors.
