PLEASANT CITY, Ohio, — The Rick VanFleet family hosted a Hereford field day Sept. 30 at their family farm in Pleasant City, Ohio.
The field day was the start of the Hereford weekend co-sponsored by the Buckeye Hereford Association and the Switzerland of Ohio, Polled Hereford Association.
Christine Gelley, OSU Extension ag educator for Noble County, led the group on a pasture walk and explained pasture fertility, pasture management, weed control and stocking rates.
Steven Boyles, OSU animal nutritionist, shared his perspective on cow herd management.
A Certified Hereford Beef brisket meal was also featured.
At the conclusion of the day, the judging contest winners were announced and prizes were given to the top adults and all the youth in attendance.
Sunday showcase
On Sunday Hereford breeders from across Ohio, gathered at the Guernsey County Fairgrounds in Old Washington, Ohio, for The Buckeye Hereford Association futurity show.
