Helping farmers think outside the box in N.Y.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Sustainable Farming Center is showcasing creative practices to inspire the work of agriculture professionals and farmers in the Northeast.

A two-day program, Creative Agriculture Approaches to Sustainability on the Farm, will be offered Aug. 19-20 at the Inn on the Lake, Canandaigua, N.Y.

Day One includes two farmer-led panels and participant discussions, featuring eight producers sharing their personal approaches and philosophies about sustainability.

There will also be a session on farm size and sustainable agriculture.

Featured dinner speaker is David Corsi, vice president of produce for Wegmans Food Markets.

Field trips

The workshop’s second day features day-long bus tours to regional farms and agriculture businesses.

This conference is directed to Extension and agriculture service agency personnel, farmers, land use professionals, community developers and sustainability advocates throughout the Northeast.
