DOVER, Ohio — Mull-Acres Mr Sambena consigned by Marion Mullet, Sugarcreek, Ohio, was the top selling consignment at the Harvest Hills Holstein Sale held Oct. 9 at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds, Dover, Ohio.
A daughter of Regancrest MR Drham Sam from a Good Plus 81 Alex daughter, she had recently calved and was off to a good start in her first lactation. She sold for $2850 and was purchased by Kurt Wyler, Fresno, Ohio.
Second high consignment at $2700 was Pine Tree Zenith Minerva, a fresh three-year-old scored Good Plus and milking 110 pounds per day. Sired by Ocean View Zenith from an Excellent 90 Freelance daughter with 31,330 pounds of milk and 1245 pounds of fat, she was consigned by Aaron Steiner, Rittman and was also purchased by Kurt Wyler.
Bred heifers
The top selling bred heifer at $2450 was Lorawae Roy Hono consigned by John Lora, Salem, Ohio. Sired by Roylane Jordan and from an Excellent dam and Excellent 92 granddam with several records over 1200 pounds of butterfat, she was due in December to MR Sam. She was purchased by Mikayla King and Clay Hershberger, Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Open heifers
In the open heifers, Duncan Socrates Allison-ET sold for $1500 to Randall Kiko, Salem, Ohio. Sired by Velvet-View KJ Socrates, her dam was the well known Cavalier FinleyAspen-ET classified Excellent 90 and with 45,830 pounds of milk, 2038 butterfat, and 1600 protein. She was consigned by Drew and Rachel Duncan, Warsaw, Ohio.
Also selling for $1500 was Galaxy-Valley Laurin Melody consigned by Jeffery Trammell, Columbia Station, Ohio, sired by Den-K Marshall LL Laurin and from a Very Good 88 Durham daughter with three records over 1000 pounds of fat. She was purchased by James Kemp, West Salem, Ohio.
Overall
A total of 64 consignments sold for an average of $1700. Two vouchers for $250 each were given away to Ohio Junior Holstein Association members prior to the sale.
The winners were Clay Hershberger, Sugarcreek, who used his to help in the purchase of the bred heifer consigned by John Lora, Salem, Ohio; and Brice Beach, Uhrichsville, who used his to purchase a June calf consigned by Merlin Troyer, Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Auctioneer for the sale was Matt Lawrence, New Castle, Pennsylvania. Ted Renner, Dalton, Ohio read the pedigrees. Ringmen were Randall Kiko, Walter Zimmerman and James Rowe.
The sale was managed by the District III Holstein Club. Sale committee members were Kurt Bohlen, John Hartline, Larry Harding and Jared Harding.
