MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Aspiring and beginning maple sugaring producers wishing to hone your skills may benefit from this program.
The Maple 101 Workshop will take place Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at Swine Creek Reservation, Lodge, 16004 Hayes Road, in Middlefield/Parkman Township.

Attendees will learn everything from tree identification and sugar bush management to producing the finished product, including tapping, collecting methods, canning and packaging.
The participants will meet in the lodge and move to the sugar house and sugar bush as the morning proceeds.
Maple tree ID; tapping, collecting and storing sap at the hobby level; finishing sap on a hobby rig; and the basic economics of starting a new sugaring operation or expanding an existing operation will all be covered.

This free program is wheelchair/stroller accessible and suitable for anyone school age or older, although outside accessibility will depend on snow conditions.
