CHILLICOTHE, OHIO — Zane Trace’s FFA sausage breakfast was held Feb. 7, right after a severe snowstorm, but the cold and even snow days did not stop the FFA members from preparing and cooking the sausage for the breakfast.

On the Tuesday and Wednesday before the sausage breakfast, FFA members made the sausage that would be served. They started out by cutting the meat into small pieces, seasoning it, and grinding up the meat on Tuesday after school.

On Wednesday, Zane Trace had a snow day, but students came in and spent the afternoon stuffing 2,000 sausage links, using two stuffers.

The next morning, Feb. 6, six students appeared on the WBEX morning show with Dan Ramey, a local radio personality. They answered questions about the breakfast and explained how the tradition of preparing sausage for the Zane Trace community began in 1978.

Senior students were at the school Feb. 7 by 3 a.m., and used the two hours before the breakfast to set up the cafeteria.

The chapter had many donors who provided eight hogs for sausage. FCCLA also helped by serving breakfast to the people on Friday. More than 730 people were served, with profit of $3,787.

The chapter uses profits from the sausage breakfast to go toward Columbus Children’s Hospital, FCCLA scholarships, and junior fair board awards at the Ross County Fair.
