MILLERSBURG, Ohio — Hannah Crossen, a 2006 graduate from Hillsdale, former 2006-2007 State FFA President, 2007 Ohio State Fair Queen, and 2008-2009 National FFA Eastern Regional Vice President, spoke to members of the West Holmes FFA Nov. 19, in the Excalibur Theatre.
She spoke about opportunities available through the FFA and encouraged members to branch out and try new things.
Following her presentation, Greenhand ceremonies were conducted. Parents were able to see a slideshow that highlighted the greenhand and chapter recipients, and then the members received their pin and certificate.
Greenhands include: Dylan Arnold-Harsh, Gabriel Armstrong, Melanie Atherton, Ariel Bickel, Riley Brannon, Stasia Callahan, Timothy Cox, Lyndsey Davis, Victoria Eggers, Ethan Fair, Matthew Gardner, Tyler Grassbaugh, Jillian Gurley;
Brandy Haddock, Katlyn Hamner, William Hughes, Jason Jenkins, Devon Little, Justin Lorentz, Mystique Martin, Samathea McClain, Kristina Metcalf, Alex Miller, Jeared Miller, Paige Miller, Coven Mullet, Robert Parker;
Colton Priebe, Patrick Schlabach, Hannah Schlegel, Carter Smith, Bethany Underwood, Brooke Underwood, Tanner Walker, Sierra Wengerd, Cole Woods, Michael Workman, and Racheal Yerian, who received their initial FFA Degree.
The night before, the annual Greenhand Lock-In was held in the High School gymnasium. At this lock-in, the freshmen members participated in a fun and educational evening geared to preparing them for success in their FFA careers.
The Greenhand officers are: president, Carter Smith; vice president, Jason Jenkins; secretary, Hannah Schlegel; treasurer, Paige Miller; reporter, Melanie Atherton; historian, Gabe Armstrong; sentinel, Matt Gardner; and student adviser, Tyler Grassbaugh.
Chapter ceremonies were then conducted. Those recognized include: Wesley Adams, Kayla Bird, Bailey Boughman, Hunter Carpenter, Meghan Dawson, Tawnya Eckerle, Jace Freewalt, James Friend, Tanner Goines;
Huck Hay, Dylan Holloway, Morgan Hoxworth, Shyann Kick, Levi Kinstle, Lexi Kinstle, Kara Leadbetter, Terry Medley, Elise Neville, Brandon Miller;
Tristan Ramseyer, Vincent Schlauch, Alexander Snow, Christopher Sprang, Harlie Spurlock, Dakota Stocker, and Dustin Stocker.
After ceremonies, members voted to hold a $5 or less gift exchange at Dec. 10 meeting, and to donate all extra fruit sale to a local food pantry items.
Members also decided to sell Christmas trees as a fundraiser at Rodhes IGA Dec. 1, 8, and 15.
Members approved sending upperclassmen to the 360 Leadership conference Jan. 19-20 at Columbus and underclassmen, Feb. 23-24 at Union Local leadership conference.

ANDOVER, Ohio — The Pymatuning Valley FFA chapter held its annual Greenhand Banquet Nov. 20. The next day, members also surprised the new greenhands by holding an informal greenhand celebration. The chapter is also getting ready for its annual Toys 4 Tykes drive. Fruit is expected to come in soon from the chapter fundraiser. The chapter will Christmas carol Dec. 19. The Parli-Pro team also took first place at the sub-district competition receiving a gold rating.
