COLUMBUS — The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association has released its annual series of farm tours.

The tours provide an opportunity for Ohioans to get a close look at some of Ohio’s finest sustainably managed farms, and to meet the farmers who operate them.

The 2008 series offers both farmers and the general public an opportunity to visit a range of organic and sustainable farms throughout Ohio. Hosts will provide walking and wagon tours and answer questions about sustainable food production.

Tours are free and open to the public.

Highlights

This year’s tour schedule includes the following highlights:

  • four fruit and vegetable farms, two of which are selling produce through community supported agriculture (CSA) systems,
  • two certified organic grain farms,
  • two certified organic dairy farms,
  • two certified organic livestock farms,
  • an innovative forest products farm, and
  • two farmers that have used the USDA’s Conservation Security Program to establish and maintain diverse wildlife habitat on their farms.
  • The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association collaborates with other farming organizations in the development of this farm tour series. The Innovative Farmers of Ohio and the Ohio State University Sustainable Agriculture Team sponsor additional farm tours and workshops as part of this series.
