CARROLLTON, Ohio — Warm weather and an enthusiastic crowd were on hand for the 35th anniversary Daffodil Dairy Sale held March 31 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds in Carrollton.
The sale totaled $63,850 on 43 head, with cattle shipped to buyers in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Top sellers
Topping the sale was a 2-year-old springing Holstein sired by Freelance and consigned by Ted Renner of Dalton, Ohio.
The animal was purchased by Raygor Farms of Dalton for $3,900.
Other high-selling animals included a fresh 2-year-old Holstein cow sired by Boss Iron and consigned by Melissa Kiko of Carrollton, which was purchased by Bill Richeson of Minerva, Ohio, for $2,850.
A fresh Mr. Sam sired Holstein cow and calf consigned by Owen Yoder of Baltic sold for a total of $3,750. The cow was purchased for $2,650 by Ernest Yoder of Jamestown, Pa., and the calf was purchased for $1,050 by Zachary Sutliff of Newton Falls, Ohio.
Averages
The average for Holstein cows sold in the sale was $2,430 per head, with Holstein heifers averaging $1,691.66 and Holstein calves averaging $1,070.
