PITTSBURGH — The Pennsylvania Brown Swiss Breeders are hosting this year’s National Brown Swiss Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn, South Pointe, Pittsburgh, from June 24-27.

The four-day event will begin with a trip to see the Pittsburgh Pirates from a VIP area.
In addition, there will be two adult tours to choose from as well as a separate tour for junior members June 25.

Tour one

Tour one will include a trip to the National Aviary, Pittsburgh’s Strip District and the Heinz History Center.

Tour two

Tour two will be featuring two farms who will talk about how to transition your farm to the next generation. The first farm is the Springhouse.

Farm market tour

The next stop will be to Trax Farm Market operated by the sixth generation of the Trax family. Not the usual farm market, Trax Farm Market includes over 86,000 square feet of retail space including a garden center.

The junior tour will kick off with a trip to the Duquesne Incline.

Duquesne Incline

After reaching the top of the incline, there is a station house where you will find pieces of Pittsburgh’s history through photographs.

The next stop is the one of a kind Ducky Tour. The excursion will begin at Station Square then take you downtown and eventually into the river while riding in a boat/truck amphibious vehicle called a “duck.”
The last stop on the junior tour is at the Carnegie Science Center.

The evening will also feature presentations of junior awards and a presentation from the PA Secretary of Ag, Russell Reading.

Cattle preview

There will be an awards breakfast June 26 as well as the annual National Business Meeting and Luncheon. The afternoon will include a preview of some of the Nation’s finest Brown Swiss cattle to be offered for sale June 27.
