WASHINGTON — U. S. Rep. John Boccieri, D-Alliance, has been appointed to the agriculture committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The House Committee on Agriculture has jurisdiction over several renewable energy matters, rural development, disaster assistance, nutrition, crop insurance, conservation, international trade, futures market regulation, animal and plant health, agricultural research and development, bioterrorism, and forestry
“I consider it a privilege to work for Ohio’s farmers and to promote our state’s agricultural heritage,” said Boccieri.
Boccieri represents the 16th Congressional District formerly served by Ralph Regula.
Farmers from Boccieri’s district were pleased about his appointment to the committee.
“Area farmers need all the help we can get,” said Stan Carmony, a Wayne County dairy farmer. “I am impressed by John because he’s willing to get his hands dirty. I know he’ll work hard to remember his roots back here at home.”
Boccieri served as a member of the agriculture committee in the Ohio Legislature prior to joining Congress.
Rep. Collin C. Peterson, D-Minn., will chair the agriculture committee, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., will serve as the ranking Republican.
