Garner Auctioneers LLC of Carrollton, Ohio, held a firearms and ammunition auction at the Garner Auction Center April 23 with 187 bidders in-house and 200 registered online to buy the 141 firearms offered.

This collection had many very desirable firearms including several new in-the-box, including the top-selling item, a Parker A1 special by Winchester with two 20 ga. barrels and a 16 ga., in original box, unfired, plus the wood presentation case. The item sold for $8,500 to an in-house buyer.

Other highlights included a rare Union Switch US & S 1943 model 1911 45 auto marked US Property and made in Swissvale, Pa., for $2,800; a model 63 Winchester, new-in-box, for $1,200 and three Winchester Model 9410s 410 ga., new-in-box for $850 to $950 each.

A rare Winchester set, one of 1,000 1894 & 9422 mag. in wood display case, sold for $2,400; a Browning Medallion rifle in 300 win mag sold for $1,000 and a Lugar P-08, 9mm with matching numbers, holster and tool sold for $1,600.

There were many other firearms in the above price ranges. In addition, ammo was in high demand, selling for outstanding prices.

According to Garner, regardless of the economy, collector firearms are in demand and investors are putting their money in quality antique and modern firearms.

Garner Auctioneers also held a construction and farm toy auction April 25 with approximately 45 people in attendance at the Crown Royal Hotel in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.

The auction offered 245 construction toys, trucks and farm tractors with many bidders registered online.

A rare Rehul Cedar Rapids Pitmaster (missing hitch and top belt) was the top-selling item, going for $610.

Other top-selling items included a Peterbilt 379 tractor with nelson 3x3x3 lowboy built by Sword for $330; a Krupp 8-axel 250-ton truck crane custom painted for $275; a salesman sample Michigan Clark wheel loader (rare) by Gescha for $275; a Caterpillar dozer with plow boom made in brass by Overland for $250; a model B Mack tractor with lowboy trailer with A-C lettering for $170; a Liegherr LTM 1060, 4-axel truck crane custom painted for $170; a Caterpillar 994 wheel loader for $150; a Bucyrus Erie Pull scrapper 1/50 scale, for $145 to an online bidder; an Oshkosh Promo S-series front discharge cement mixer for $130 and a white International TD-25 crawler tractor with sheepsfoot compactor for $110

Once again it shows good collectibles hold their investment even in slow economic times, Garner said.

– Joe Herr of Herr-A-Cane Auctions, New Galilee, Pa., held a horse and tack auction April 25 at the Lawrence County, Pa., Fairgrounds with 100 bidders in attendance.

The economy has impacted the horse and tack market dramatically, but Herr was pleased that some horses brought between $500-$800 and the tack brought up to $600 for one item.

The item that generated the most excitement was a pony cart from Alliance, Ohio.
