WESTMINSTER, Md. – MidAtlantic Farm Credit has announced Homegrown by Heroes, a food labeling program available to veterans who grow food products and provide them to consumers, is now available to customers in their territory.
Created by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the Homegrown by Heroes marketing initiative provides those eligible with the Homegrown by Heroes label, which they can use on their product packaging and marketing materials to communicate to consumers that the product they are purchasing was grown by a veteran-farmer.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition and Farm Credit have expanded this program to a national level, making it available to veteran-farmers in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s territory.
“This program is just a small way that Farm Credit can thank our veterans and lend support to them as they embark on a new career path,” says Sandy Wieber, Senior Vice President of Marketing for MidAtlantic Farm Credit. “It’s a great branding program for local vets, but it’s also great for consumers, who want to know who grew their food. We’re happy we could offer this program in our region—and we look forward to seeing more Homegrown by Heroes stickers in our local groceries.”
The Homegrown by Heroes program is open to anyone who has served or is currently serving in any branch of the United States Military. For more information, including eligibility requirements and the online application, visit hgbh.org.
