If you’re a birder or want to become one, the Great Backyard Bird Count is for you.
The event kicks off Feb. 12 and runs through Feb. 15, 2016.
How to participate
All it takes to participate in the GBBC is to keep track of all the birds you see for at least a 15 minute observation period sometime during the four-day event. You’re welcome to count birds on more than one day, though. Just keep track of dates, times and locations, and keep separate checklists for each time you bird watch. You can observe birds in your backyard, at a local park or anywhere you want.
According to the project’s website, you must create an account (it’s free) before entering your bird checklist to the site. If you have an old account from the past couple of years, you can log into it.
On your account, you can enter your data. Or, there’s an app for that.
