The greatest peace

There is no doubt about it. We all enjoy times of peace in our lives. In today’s world it seems more and more difficult to enjoy those times of peace though. Just about the time we think we can enjoy some peace, we pick up the daily newspaper or turn on the evening news and our peace of mind becomes less.

There are so many distractions in our lives with all the many things going on round us that we find ourselves struggling to find peace of mind. What is the answer?

“Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend

“What secret trouble stirs your heart?

Why all this fret and flurry?

Dost those not know that what is best

In this too restless world is rest,

From over-work and hurry?

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Every Christmas season I am reminded of the word “peace.” When we sing the beautiful Christmas carols they remind us again and again that our real peace comes through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” Isa.26:3.

Think with me for a moment today just how wonderful our world would be if we could all live together in peace.

“There can be no greater service to mankind and no nobler mission, than devotion to world peace. The course has been charted.” — Harry S. Truman.

Let us continue to pray for one another that we will enjoy peace on earth good will with all men. Our greatest peace is the peace we can have in our heart with God and our fellow man.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” Matt. 5:9.

“Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them” Ps. 119:165.
