SALEM, Ohio — Sara (Harris) Bennett 96, of Salem, formerly of Green Township, died Jan. 10, 2014 at the Courtyard on Lexington Avenue, Salem.

She was born on April 20, 1917, in Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of the late J. Holbert and Caroline (Maust) Harris.

She has been a resident of the area for over 80 years, coming from her home in Fayette County.

Bennett worked with her husband at the family’s own greenhouse, Bennetts Greenhouse in Greenford, a 1935 Graduate of the Greenford High School, a 4-H advisor for 50 years of the Greenford Busy Bees, a member of the South Range Hall of Fame for Basketball, served on the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department Aux., and was the oldest member of the Greenford Christian Church.

She is survived by her children, Kay D.Mariotti, of Canfield and Larry J. Bennett, of Greenford, her five grand and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Bennett on April 20, 2000, brothers James W and Wilbur “Bill” G. Harris and sister Jessie Greer.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Jan. 13 at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
The private burial was in Washingtonville Cemetery.

The family wishes contributions be made to the Greenford Christian Church.
