Grandma’s New Year’s Eve Sauerkraut and Kielbasa

Ingredients:

  • 4 pounds kielbasa smoked sausage
  • 1 28-oz bag sauerkraut, drained and rinsed.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onions
  • 1 teaspooon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 15 oz. can of tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter cut into smaller pieces
  • /ul>

    Directions:

    1. Line a large slow cooker with a liner or spray with cooking spary.
    2. Place the sauerkraut in the crockpot. Add the brown sugar, minced onions, garlic powder, black pepper, and tomato sauce on top of the sauerkraut and mix to combine.
    3. Cut the kielbasa into bun length pieces and place on top of the sauerkraut and put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours or until the kielbasa begins to split.
    4. Serve as is or with sausage rolls to make sausage sandwiches topped with sauerkraut.
