SALEM, Ohio — Paul H. Hays, 78, of 7489 McCann Road, Kensington, Ohio, died at 5:20 a.m. Feb. 1, 2009, at the Aultman Hospital in Canton.
He was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Salem, the son of the late Herman and Annie (Ritchey) Hays.
Until his retirement, Paul had been a self-employed dairy farmer with Holstein cattle.
Paul was a 1949 graduate of Augusta High School and a member of the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church.
He was a member and past president of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau and a member of the Columbiana County Fair Board for 15 years. He was also a former member of the Farm Bureau Council, the Columbiana-Mahoning Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Ohio Holstein Association. Paul was the recipient of the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award and the Columbiana County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
His wife, Janet (Altenhof) Hays, survives him; along with a son, Robert Hays of Kensington; three daughters, Deb Lance of Salem, Sally Hays of Guilford Lake and Patti Jarvis of Homeworth; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 5 at the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating.
Calling hours will be held Feb. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stark Memorial Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services Feb. 5 at the church.
Burial will be at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton.
