The Expo 2050 Task Force will be working with consultants to map out long-term recommendations for the Ohio State Fair and the Ohio Expo Center. 

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Expo Center and State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler announced the 2022 Ohio State Fair will be July 27 to Aug. 7.

Despite restrictions, junior fair participation equaled pre-pandemic levels at the 2021 Ohio State Fair, and the sale results set records. 

The Ohio State Fair will return in 2021, after being canceled entirely in 2020. But with pandemic restrictions and other concerns still lingering, it will be limited to mainly livestock competitions and sales, and some youth non-livestock project judging.

The Ohio Expositions Commission agreed to a possible 75-year lease that would give the Columbus Crew SC access to about 25 acres of state land for a new practice facility in a Jan. 28 meeting. This lease comes with a $2 million up front payment in April. That money would be a major help for the commission, after a year of cancellations and lost revenue.

Ohio fair leaders are one of the latest groups to criticize how Gov. Mike DeWine is handling the state’s reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Ohio State Fair has been canceled, due to public health and financial concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ohio Pork Council announced that all pigs shown at the Ohio State Fair this year must be ractopamine-free. The product is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and is used in feed to increase pigs’ lean growth rates. The new requirement is not related to health risks, but to trade.

The Ohio State Fair buildings may be at rest, but the dynamics for the groups that "bring it to life" are in perpetual motion.

The Dean's Charity Steer Show, a new event at the Ohio State Fair, raised more than $146,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.
