Four Ohio teens have been promoting a bill to designate the barn as the "official historical architectural structure of the state.”

Five Ohio farm families honored recently for their conservation work were: the Brause Family of Crawford County; Paul and Joanne Mechling of Ashtabula County; Chuck and Diane Hicks of Washington County; the Lohstroh family of Madison and Pickaway counties; and T. Wayne Vickers of Pickaway County.

Four family farms and two key beef industry supporters were honored during the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association annual meeting and awards banquet Jan. 20.

In 2017, the Ohio Department of Agriculture recognized 125 new century, sesquicentennial or bicentennial farms owned by the same family.

Ohio Farm Bureau members Greg and Rose Hartschuh, of Sycamore, Ohio, won the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Excellence in Agriculture Award.

Ohio ag leaders Ken Davis, Highland County, and Fred Finney, Wayne County, received Ohio Farm Bureau's Distinguished Service Awards Dec. 7. Also honored was Shirley Boyd, Agriculture Educator Award winner.

The Highlandtown Wildlife Area was honored as the Columbiana Soil and Water Conservation District’s 2017 Cooperator of the Year during the district’s 75th anniversary banquet.

Ohio Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Adam Sharp said it's a challenge to be relevant across generations. To do so, the Farm Bureau needs to work on inclusiveness.
