A shortage in natural gas this winter isn’t likely, thanks to the shale gas industry.

The case is gaining interest because the decision could impact landowners in Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Monroe and Noble counties.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource reports that the proposed gas compressor station in the Marcellus Shale region of Beaver County, Pennsylvania has been approved, despite pleas from area residents.

A $5 billion dollar class action lawsuit has been filed by Pennsylvania landowners against Chesapeake Energy Corp. and its subsidiary, Access Midstream Partners, over gas and oil royalties.

The number of permits issued in July may have been down, but drilling activity is still strong in southeast Ohio.

More drilling permits are being issued as oil and gas companies continue to explore the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources reported 25 new permits were issued for drilling in Monroe County during June.

Funding to address housing needs comes from Marcellus Shale impact fees.

With the increase in horizontal Utica shale wells coming online, production has nearly doubled in Ohio.
