Ingredients
- 5 quarts ground ripe tomatoes
- 3 medium onions, ground
- 1 pint vinegar
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 tablespoon salt
Directions
Peel and grind tomatoes and onions. Combine vinegar, sugars, spices and salt in heavy saucepan; bring to boil. Add vegetables and simmer over low heat until thick, stirring frequently to prevent sticking Or cook in moderate oven (350°), stirring occasionally to prevent a crust forming on top. Ladle hot mixture into hot jars. Seal at once. Makes about 5 pints.
