Ingredients
- 4 qt. popcorn, popped
- 2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
Directions
Preheat oven to 200°. Pour popcorn into large heat proof bowl (lightly salt it, if desired) and place bowl in oven to keep warm. Place chocolate squares into heavy saucepan over low heat. Heat chocolate 5 minutes stirring constantly until completely melted. Stir in sugar and corn syrup. Add water and stir until all ingredients are blended well.
Over medium heat cook until it comes to a steady boil, stirring constantly. Cook to hard ball stage or 250° on a candy thermometer. Take popcorn from oven and add chocolate mixture. Stir mixture with a wooden spoon until popcorn is evenly coated. When popcorn is cool enough form it into 3 inch balls. (To keep the popcorn from sticking to your hands, dip your fingers in cold water.) Cool popcorn balls on a wire rack. Makes 1 dozen.
These popcorn balls can be wrapped in plastic wrap and tied with Halloween ribbon to hand out to trick-or-treaters.
