Ingredients
- 3 s flour
- 2 s sugar
- 1 Crisco
- 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 2 s whole milk (only)
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 4 oz. butter
- 4 s sifted confectioner’s sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Put flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Cut in Crisco as you would pie dough. Gently stir in spices. Put vinegar in a 2 cup measure. Fill to 2 cups with whole milk. Add baking soda and stir until very foamy. Gently stir into dry ingredients until moistened. Batter will be rather thin and remain lumpy. Pour into greased, floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 40 – 45 minutes until toothpick tests clean. Cool and ice with cream cheese frosting or eat plain with whipped topping.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
Beat until light and fluffy.
