WASHINGTON – Signup for the USDA’s Livestock Compensation Program ends Dec. 13.
Signup began Oct. 1 for livestock producers in counties that have received a primary disaster designation for drought.
Counties named as contiguous counties are not eligible for LCP.
Payment basis. Payments are based on standard feed consumption data for each eligible type of livestock.
Types of livestock adjusted by these factors and payment rates are:
* Beef cows, $18 per head;
* Dairy cows, $31.50 per head;
* Stockers, $13.50 per head;
* Buffalo and beefalo, $18 per head;
* Goats, $4.50 per head; and
* Sheep, $4.50 per head.
Already benefited. As of Nov. 20, LCP applications have been received from and payments issued to more than 310,000 livestock producers in 41 drought impacted states.
