Join in on the discussion of Gabrielle Zevin’s novel The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry when the April Book Discussion meets in the library’s Quaker Room on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 beginning at 7 p.m. The book is available to borrow from the Adult Services Department. Registration is not required and participation is open to the public.
The novel is a love letter to the world of books that change our lives by giving us the stories that open our hearts and enlighten our minds. A. J. Fikry’s life is not what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales ever, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe’s poems, has been stolen. He begins to isolate himself from the people in his community, including a well-intentioned police officer, his sister-in-law who wants to improve his life, and a lovely and eccentric publishing house sales rep. Even the books in his store no longer give him pleasure. And then a mysterious package appears at his bookstore. It’s an unexpected arrival that gives him the opportunity to make his life over and for everything to twist again into a version of his life that he didn’t see coming. The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry is an unforgettable tale of transformation and second chances.
