On October 27, 2015 from 7-8 p.m. the book “Love Anthony” written by Lisa Genova will be discussed in the library’s Quaker Room. The discussion is open to the adult public and registration is not required. Books for borrowing are made available in the library’s Adult Services Department.
Lisa Genova’s novels focus on hard health-related realities of life that challenge personal endurance, familial relationships and love. “Love Anthony” is no exception.
Two women, struggling to find their way through their own personal tragedies, meet coincidentally on a Nantucket beach. A friendship develops as they share their life-changing experiences. Olivia, a young mother, is grieving the death of Anthony, her 8 year old autistic son. Beth, a mother of three daughters, is grieving the loss of her 14 year marriage, a marriage destroyed by her husband’s infidelity. As both women try to find their way through raw pain and sorrow each begins to explore their own creativity, Olivia through photography and Beth, through writing.
As Beth rekindles her love of writing she finds a compelling voice in the story of a young autistic boy. She shares with Olivia her story of the boy, his personality, thoughts and feelings. Both women find strength and understanding through this sharing that helps them move forward through their heart-breaking experiences.
Salem Public Library’s Book Discussion Group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month. For more information please call the library at 330-332-0042.
