Hello from Hazard.
We received two identifications of Item 610 this week. Frank Goulde of Danville, Ohio, wrote to say it was a “flue cleaner” used to clean boiler tubes.
He explained the cleaner is adjustable to fit the tube and is then fastened to a long rod and shoved back and forth through the tube to remove soot build up.
Joe Betz of Liberty, Pa. also made the same identification, but said he wasn’t sure what it was called. He guessed “boiler tube scraper?”
Kevin Barr e-mailed in his guess that it was some kind of expander, perhaps to stretch a pipe. Good guess Kevin, almost got it.
Our thanks to G.A. Henderson of Williamstown, W.Va. for sending in the photo.
This week we introduce this square frame devise that Merle L. Hershey of Orrville, Ohio, said he got at an auction and he is wondering what it might be.
What do you think it is? Send your ideas to Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail; editorial@farmanddairy.com.
