corn harvest

More than any other time in recent memory, farmers this year are harvesting in hope. That is, their collective marketing plan is to hope that prices get better.

There have been no surprises in the grain harvest so far, so we are looking at outside markets, weather, and tea leaves and chicken entrails for direction.

Ohio crop harvest ahead of usual, corn yields looking better than expected.

I am having trouble coming to terms with the idea that we are still not to the last week of September and we are well into harvest, even here in the frozen north (Ashtabula County, Ohio, if you are not a regular reader).

The grain market is trying to stage a rally based on a smaller crops for this year, but the markets for next year are looking to put a cap on gains.

Poor conditions persist, especially for Ohio growers.

In Ohio, we have the worst combination of grain marketing circumstances this year — a poor crop in a good crop year (for everyone else).

Our crops have improved, but from poor to fair.

Grain prices drop even lower, but Aug. 12 crop production report will help tell us where we're at.

Grain producers everywhere are saying, ‘Please, Lord, give me another rally; I will know what to do this time!’
