Wood thrushes returned the last week in April, so I know spring has officially arrived.

Earlier this week I attended the New River Birding and Nature Festival in southern West Virginia as a speaker and guide.

Turkeys aren’t the only birds with courtship on their minds. With long days and warmer temperatures, song bird nesting season is also underway.

In the outdoors, something is always out to get you.

The hummingbirds will soon be coming, so be prepared!

By the time you read this, there may be hummingbirds in your backyard.

Get your pole and lure, because fishing time is finally here.

I gently poked the nest until I saw some movement. Suddenly two big black eyes stared back at me. It was a flying squirrel.

Some basic pointers on identifying the ducks.

The dance of the woodcock is a rite of spring that every birder should experience at least once.
