ROOTSTOWN, Ohio — Miner’s Tractor Sales, Inc. was formerly known as Bishop Tractor, located at 6941 Tallmadge Road in Edinburg Township, Rootstown, Ohio.

Al Bishop hired Steve Miner when he was only 12. After school, Steve would hang out at the store admiring the equipment, so Al told him if he was going to hang around, he might as well sweep the floors. And so began Steve’s career in farm equipment.

Steve eventually went to work in the shop repairing equipment, then moved up to the parts department selling parts. Al had turned the business over to his son, Gary Bishop, and from that point on, Steve worked in all departments of the business including sales, parts and service.

In 2004, when Gary was ready to retire, he sold the business to Steve, and it is now known as Miner’s Tractor Sales, Inc.

Miner is a firm believer in product availability and service. His inventory selection just what the community and buyers are looking for. When driving through the lot you will see a large selection of New Holland tractors ranging mostly from 22 horsepower up to 130 horsepower. He also has a large selection of New Holland hay equipment, including discbines, square balers, bale movers and wagons.

Along with commercial zero-turn mowers from Landpride, Hustler to Scag, Miner’s selection is large and if he doesn’t have it in stock, he can get it. There is also a large selection of used equipment. He also believes in stocking the parts for the equipment he sells and has a very large inventory of in-stock parts available.

All of the technicians are factory-trained mechanics and are individually enrolled in tech training classes throughout the year so they stay familiar with newer equipment models.

In March 2007, Miner purchased what was formerly known as the Canfield New Holland store at 611 E. Main St., in Canfield, Ohio. It is now Miner’s Tractor Sales, Inc.

He began moving equipment to the new location, hoping to reach the community of Canfield and the surrounding areas by showing the availability of the New Holland Equipment. He picked up the Gravely zero-turn mower line and dropped some of the other lines.

He also introduced to the area the Hustler/Landpride/Scag line he currently carries at Edinburg. He also carries Dolmar Saws and Weed Trimmers at both locations.

Miner’s Tractor Sales is a family-run business with son Mike as parts manager for both stores. His daughter, Nichole, works at the Canfield store taking care of repair orders, warranty work, customer accounts and advertising details.

Tracy works at the Edinburg location and does all of the accounting work through both stores.

Instilling and keeping good business practices; availability of products and parts; personable attention to customers; and selling good, quality equipment are the key ingredients to a successful business. Having good, knowledgeable employees that are willing to work together also helps. Customer satisfaction is the main goal and Miner’s Tractor Sales does its best to provide just that.
