COLUMBUS — There are agriculture and horticulture competitions open to all ages at the 2008 Ohio State Fair.
Adults can compete in many agriculture, horticulture and floriculture events including amateur floral arts, container gardens and specialty gladiolus specimen shows.
Individuals 6 to 19 can compete in many junior agriculture, horticulture and floriculture events including tomatoes, garden display, squash, grains and container gardens.
Competitions
This year’s agriculture and horticulture division will also showcase many competitions and prizes, including:
— Nuts: $450 in cash prizes will be awarded.
— Christmas trees: $225 in cash prizes will be awarded.
— Scarecrows: $180 in cash prizes will be awarded.
— Backyard vegetable and fruits: $98 in cash prizes for first through fifth place in each class and a rosette for the Best in Show will be awarded.
— Largest and specialty exhibits: $60 in cash prizes for first through fifth place in each class and a banner for each class winner will be awarded.
— Garden display tables: $1,000 in cash prizes for first through fifth place and a banner for the class winner will be awarded.
Deadlines
Entries for horticulture and agriculture events must be postmarked by June 20; floriculture event entries must be postmarked by July 1. Late entries will be accepted with a minimum late fee of $20, the late fee will increase to $25 for entries one week before staging.
