SOUTHINGTON, OHIO — If you’re looking for a baler, a haybine, a sickle mower or tractor to get you through hay season, head to Chalker’s Auction, 4911 Herner-County Line Road in Southington.
Or if you’re looking for a manure spreader, a grain drill, cultimulcher, you name it, you can find it at one of Chalker’s monthly consignment machinery auctions.
This is the company’s 42nd year of conducting tractor and farm equipment auctions, opening for business in March 1966. In the early years, the auctions started in the evening and many months — because all tractors were driven through the auction barn — the auctions would run until daybreak, says Jason Miranda, who now operates the business started by his grandfather.
“Very little has changed through the years,” Miranda said. “Even our commissions remain the same.”
And if a consignor doesn’t sell the item, there’s no charge, he added.
Auctions are held on the first Saturday of each month. Miscellaneous items sell at 9:30 a.m., followed by lawn and garden tractors at 11 a.m., farm tractors at noon and equipment to follow. Most months, there are three auctioneers selling at the same time.
Chalker’s Auction is located on 100 acres, so there’s plenty of room for all that equipment.
They also sells various new and used farm implements, trailers, farm gates, tractor rims, radiators and miscellaneous parts.
